One of the best ways to get to know Africa is by getting involved in an ongoing project. Oreteti Cultural Discovery offers several flexible volunteering opportunities, in partnership with Aang Serian and other non-profit organizations. These can be combined with our short courses, Maasai and Chagga village visits, walking safaris and academic programmes for a true ‘taste of Tanzania’.

Some of the opportunities we are currently offering are as follows:

- Teaching in nursery, primary and secondary schools (rural or urban)

- English as a Foreign Language teaching to adults (rural or urban)

- Tree planting (rural only)

- Health education for adults (rural only)

- Marketing of fair trade jewellery (urban-based, with some field visits)

- Classroom/dormitory construction (rural only)

- Curriculum development in agriculture & veterinary medicine (urban-based, with some field visits)

- Music recording and promotion (urban-based, with some field visits)

Other opportunities in fields such as health, education and agriculture may be available in the near future in collaboration with other non-governmental organizations – please watch this site for more details.

Volunteers are usually expected to make a minimum financial contribution of $380 to the project (additional fundraising is strongly encouraged) and to cover all their own living costs, including food, accommodation and transport.  Swahili lessons, mentoring services, academic lectures and short courses are available at extra cost.

We require a current CV and two references for all volunteer applications, and may conduct background checks on volunteers who will be working with small children.  Please contact us for more information and an application form.
